Am I Going to Role Model on My Own?

Of course not! One of the goals of On Giants' Shoulders is to get your school involved in community service activities. Start recruiting motivated students from your school. When I was in high school we had a "club fair" where I was able to create a display to get the attention of students. It is a good idea to have the Today Show  video running in the background so potential recruits can see how much fun and rewarding this will be for them. (Hint: At a club fair, put a box of cookies on the table in front of your presentation to attract students.

If your school doesn't have a club fair, set up a "recruiting table" in a well traveled hallway (don't forget the cookies), ask the community service coordinator/advisor in your school, send emails, put up fliers, write an advertisement in your school newspaper, and RECRUIT YOUR FRIENDS!

Tell the students that they can include their participation on their college applications.  If your school has a community service requirement, mention that they can begin to fulfill their requirements through On Giants' Shoulders. And, of course, point out that they will derive a great deal of personal satisfaction.
